Agronomic Traits and Growth of Hang Kra Rog Cannabis Variety in Indoor Growing System
Abstract
Cannabis is plant that can be grown in the field, greenhouses and indoor growing systems. Each system of planting has different advantages and limitations. Hang Kra Rog variety is the most popular cannabis variety for cultivation in Thailand. The distribution of this variety is mostly found around the Phu Phan mountain range, located in Sakon Nakhon and Kalasin provinces. Normally farmers prefer to grow it in the field which can be planted only 1-2 times per year. However, this system cannot control the environment which make it unable to control the yield quality. Therefore, in order to grow cannabis for high quality and high yield. An Indoor growing system is an option that can control the quality of yield. The objective of this study was to evaluate agronomic traits and growth of Hang Kra Rog cannabis variety grown in indoor growing system. One hundred cannabis seeds received from farmer's field were germinated. Then, eighty vigorous seedlings were selected for transplant into pots. Data were collected by individuals about growth and agronomic traits every week until flowering stage. The results showed that plant height of Hang Kra Rog cannabis variety was in a range of 51 - 70 cm., every plant has 9 lanceolate leaflets, and there were 75% of female plants, 19% of males, and 6% of hermaphrodite plants. It was found that the ratio of male to female plants not in accordance with the 1:1 ratio may be caused by the rodelization process, which is when the female plants are stressed due to not being pollinated and will produce pollen sacs and self-pollinate. That can produce offspring are hermaphrodite plants.
