Abstract

Oil palm is a plant that grows well in soil with a pH of approximately 4-6. Water with different pH values may affect the growth of oil palm seedlings. The objective of this experiment was to compare the growth of oil palm seedlings given different types of water. The experiment was planned in a completely randomized block design (Randomized Complete Block Design) with 4 replications and 4 treatments of water types, including 1) ground water (pH=5.80) 2) tap water (pH=6.45) 3) canal water (pH=2.91) 4) ground water that has been passed through a magnetic water quality adjuster (MaxFlow) (pH=7.57). Oil palm seedlings were irrigated with 0.3 liters of water per plant per day during the age of 4-10 weeks and given 3 liters of water per plant per day during the age of 12-32 weeks. Fertilizer formula 15-15-15 was applied at the rate of 3 grams per plant every 2 weeks. Data collection were leaf length, leaf width, stem height, plant base width leaf greenness, and leaf axis. The results show that the growth of oil palm seedings irrigated with canal water were the highest.
