Abstract

Hemp (Cannabis sativa L. subsp. sativa) breeding is important for increasing production potential for use in specific industries such as textiles and food. This research aims to evaluate the growth potential and inflorescence of 13 new hemp lines developed by Kasetsart University, which have high seed yield potential. The experiment was conducted at Doi Pui Research Station, Chiang Mai Province, using a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 3 replications. Important growth data were collected, including the number of branches per plant, the number of branches with seeds, the length of the main inflorescence, the length of the minor inflorescence, the weight of the main inflorescence, the weight of the minor inflorescence, and the density of trichomes. From the statistical analysis it was found that the KU26 lines has outstanding potential for yield components, consisting of the inflorescence length (46.81 cm) and the weight of the minor inflorescence (355.1 g). In addition, all 13 hemp lines have low trichome density, which is suitable for use for seed production. Therefore, all 13 hemp lines will be selected for regional yield trial.
