The Comparison between Agronomic Traits and Grain Yield of Three Sesame Varieties
Abstract
Sesame variety is an important factor to increase sesame grain yield. Generally, sesame varieties developed from breeding programs have better agronomic traits than local varieties, such as non-shattering. The objectives of this study were to 1) compare agronomic traits among three sesame varieties, and 2) compare grain yield between the three varieties. Three sesame varieties were two white sesame (Chaiyaphum and C Plus 1) and one black sesame (KU 18). The varieties were evaluated at the experimental nursery, Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University using RCBD (Randomized Complete Block Design) with four replications. The nine data collection were seedling vigor (score 1-5), days to 50% and last flowering, plant height at harvest (cm), height of 1st and last pod (cm), no. of primary branches, grain yield per plot and 1,000-seed weight. The results showed that Chaiyaphum was late variety compared with C Plus 1 and KU 18. C Plus 1 had high grain yield per plot than KU 18 and Chaiyaphum because of non-shattering. For stem branching, C Plus 1 and Chaiyaphum were branches, but KU 18 was single stem.
