Classification of Pineapple Genetics for Fruit Quality Traits Using Multivariate Analysis Method
Abstract
Each pineapple variety has been different genetic characteristics and fruit quality. Classification of pineapple genetics for fruit quality traits using multivariate analysis method. The objective was to select pineapple fruits of high quality and suitable parents and parent genes for further improvement of pineapple breeding. Seventy-four hybrids from the crosses of Pattavia x MD2, MD2 x Pattavia, MD2 x Trat Si Thong, Trat Si Thong x MD2, Trat Si Thong x Pattavia, Pattavia x Trat Si Thong. Characteristics evaluated for hybrid pineapple were fruit weight, fruit height, flesh color, core width, shell thickness, eye depth, and sweetness (°Brix). The data were analyzed using the cluster analysis technique. The data were divided into six groups using the STAR program. The hybrids between MD2 x Trat Si thong were M-38-5, MPK-58-65, and M-1-5, while the hybrids between Trat Si thong x MD2 were PK-11-1 and PK-8-28 and the cross between MD2 x Pattavia, M-25-93 clone, had quantitative and good quality characteristics compared to the comparison variety. May be used as a breeder or parent for further genetic breeding improvement.
