Abstract

Oil palm is an important economic oil crop of Thailand. Leaf part was one factor affects the yield. Oil palm frond was important part of photosynthesis. The harvest of fresh fruit bunch was remove fronds as well. The fresh weight of oil palm frond was influence the yield. The objective of this experiment was to compare frond weight of oil palm 12 years old among eight commercial varieties consist of Surat Thani 2, Surat Thani 3, Surat Thani 4, Surat Thani 5, Surat Thani 6, Uti, Uniwanich and Golden Tenera. They were grown under acid sulfate soil conditions at Rangsit soil series. Bottom frond weight or frond under fruit bunch of oil palm were collected 2 times. The results show that frond weights of both times were different. The first time, November 2023, frond weights of 8 varieties were not significant. While the second time, January 2024, frond weights were significant. It was shown that oil palm varieties responded to time. Therefore, it affects the frond weights that was different in each variety. The frond weight of 8 varieties will be used basic information in varietal selection for breeding.
