Abstract

The objective of the present study aimed to evaluate of growth, yield, biomass yield, and nutritional value of 6 Leucaena varieties/lines. The field experiment was conducted at Farm of Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen Campus, Kamphaeng Saen District, Nakhon Pathom Province in 2023-2024. The experiment was arranged in a randomize complete block design (RCBD) with 4 replications. The treatment consisted of 6 Leucaena varieties/lines; K636, KU56, KU15, Cunningham, Peru and Tarramba. The data collection was measured growth, yield and nutritional values including crude protein, ash, neutral-detergent fiber (NDF), Acid-detergent fiber (ADF) and Acid-detergent Lignin (ADL).

The results showed that the average plant height of Leucaena was 438.77-475.55 cm and the average stem diameter was 2.35-2.66 cm. The shoot number after cutting showed that Cunningham and Peru had high shoot/stump resulting in increasing biomass yield in the second cutting cycle, Peru showed the highest average fresh biomass yield of 15,833.04 kg/rai and Tarramba, K636, and KU15 had the low average fresh biomass yield. In the second cutting cycle, Peru still showed the highest average dry biomass yield of 5,560.02 kg/rai and K636 had the lowest average dry biomass yield of 4,210.27 kg/rai. In the case of nutritional value, there was no significantly different in NDF, ADF, ADL, ash and CP under difference varieties/line of Leucaena. Peru was a suitable variety for use as ruminant feed because of high leaf yield, high fresh and dry biomass yield and suitable nutritional value.
