Flowering in CMD Resistant Hybrids Regenerated from in vitro Culture
Abstract
The flowering of cassava depends on variety and planting environment. The objective of this study was to estimate the flowering of cassava hybrids imported to Thailand for the evaluation of resistance to cassava mosaic disease. The experiment was designed in RCBD with four replications. Three hybrid lines of tissue culture derived-cassava seedlings including CR 13-8, CR 52A-4, CR 27-20, and Huay bong 90 cuttings were grown in Dan Khun Thot district, Nakhon Ratchasima province in May and June 2022. Panicle number, male flower number, and female flower number were randomly collected from cassava plants aged from 6 to 8 months after planting (MAP). Results demonstrated that every hybrid line at 6-8 MAP flowered and formed male flowers at a greater number than female flowers. Means of flowers were compared among hybrid lines and check variety at 6 MAP. Line CR 52A-4 had the highest flowers with 794 male flowers and the 52.77 female flowers. Line CR 13-8 showed an average of 209.35 male flowers and an average of 25.95 female flowers. Line CR 27-20 had the lowest average number of male flowers (45.88) and the lowest average number of female flowers (4.62). In contrast, Huay bong 90, did not flowered.
