Abstract

Seedling rootstock is an important factor for scion growth with green budding propagation. The objectives of this study were to compare growth of RRIT 408 scion on different seedling rootstocks, and get basic information on the appropriate seedling rootstock for RRIT 408 scion. This study was conducted at the experimental nursery, Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University. The elite scion, RRIT 408, was used for green budding propagation on the three different seedling rootstocks (BPM 24, RRIT 251 and RRIM 600). Completely randomized design (CRD) was used for growth comparison. Each treatment was 15 plants for observation. Data collection includes days to bud emergence (d), shoot length (cm), stock girth (cm), shoot girth (cm), leaf storey width (cm) and no. of leaf storey. The results showed that different seedling rootstocks effected on days to bud emergence. RRIT 408 buds spend short time for bud emergence, when BPM 24 and RRIM 600 were used as rootstocks. In addition, RRIT 408 had highest shoot length from 3 to 17 days after the successful budding on BPM 24 and RRIM 600 rootstocks.
