Rapid Rice Seed Vigour Classification Using Image Processing
Abstract
Comparison of rice seed vigor in 4 varieties, 7 samples in total, was studied via the radicle emergence technique using image processing with the ImageJ program and the Rice4 program, Every sample was test with 4 replicas (100 seeds each). After image processing, rice seed vigor classification was investigated through accumulate radicle emergence curve fitting using the GERMINATOR program. In GERMINATOR, the radicle emergence indices were analyzed from data of ImageJ and the Rice4 program, such as maximum percentage of germination (Gmax), time to reach 50% germination (t₅₀), time to reach a user-defined percentage of germination and uniformity of germination (for example U₇₅₂₅: time interval between 25% and 75% of viable seeds to germinate), mean germination time (MGT) and area under the curve (AUC). Results of ImageJ's data revealed that the seed sample F (Pathumthani 1 from Chainat Rice Research Center /2015/2016) was the highest vigor among all seeds samples but rice seed sample G (RD6 from Ubon Ratchathani Rice Research Center /2015) was the lowest vigor. This was consistent with the results obtained from Rice4. Results of Rice4's data showed the highest to lowest seed vigor followed, F A D E C B and G. The ImageJ's data provided a systematic analysis of results, but it was slightly different from the Rice4 in some indices
