Bunch Yield Comparison of Eight Commercial Oil Palm Varieties on 10 Years Old in Acid Sulfate Soil
Abstract
Comparison of eight commercial oil palm varieties on 10 years old. The objective of this study was to compare the yield of oil palm in acid soil conditions (Rangsit soil series). The studies were carried out in the oil palm planting area of Kasetsart University, Nong Mu Subdistrict, Wihan Daeng District, Saraburi Province. With planting distance 9x9x9 m. Randomized complete block design was performed with 3 replications. Eight commercial oil palm varieties, namely Surat Thani 2 varieties (ST2), Surat Thani 3 varieties (ST3), Surat Thani 4 varieties (ST4), Surat Thani 5 varieties (ST5), Surat Thani 6 varieties (ST6), CP Golden Tenera varieties (CPGT), Univanich varieties (UNI) and Uti varieties (UTI). From the results, it was found that ST3 had the highest number of bunches 8.86 bunches/plant /year. ST4 had the highest of average bunch weight 12.79 kilograms. And CPGT had the highest yield of fresh fruit bunches 98.59 kilograms/plant/year. Which is not statistically different from ST2, ST4, ST3, ST5 and ST6, respectively. But it was statistically significantly different from UNI and UTI had 63.73 and 60.76 kilograms/plant/year, respectively.
