Plant Height Measurement of 10-Year-Old Commercial Oil Palm under Acid Sulfate Soils by Using Trigonometry
Abstract
Plant height of oil palm was a characteristic that has important to harvest. Since the oil palm was long harvest time. Variety with dwarf will be long harvesting potential. Thus, the objective of this experiment was plant height measurement of 10-year-old commercial oil palm. Surat Thani 2, Surat Thani 3, Surat Thani 4, Surat Thani 5, Surat Thani 6, Univanich, Golden Tenera and Uti were used in this experiment. They were grown under acid sulfate soils at Rangsit area. No. 41 of leaf stalk base was point for measurement plant height oil palm by application of knowledge in trigonometry. The angle formed in right triangle was measured. Then, lengths of the sides of a right triangle were calculated and plant height of oil palm were transformed. The result show that Golden Tenera variety was highest plant height, 4.92 meter. While, Surat Thani 4 was lowest plant height, 3.35 meter. When consider standard deviation (SD), the result show that Uti was lowest SD, 0.08. Thus, this variety was uniformity of plant height more than other variety. This information will be used full for varieties selection in breeding program.
