Comparison of Morphological Characteristics of Seven Hemp and Cannabis Varieties with Indoor Growing System
Abstract
Most Thai hemp and cannabis varieties have relatively low yields and cannabinoids in female inflorescences. Therefore, more new and improved varieties were imported to grow in Thailand. The purpose of this research was to study the morphology of seven hemp and cannabis varieties imported from abroad. The seven varieties were Black Jack, Blue Dream, Blueberry, CBD Charlotte's Angel, Skunk, Strawberry Cough, and Sugar Bomb. They were grown in an indoor system under the control of environmental conditions and all growth factors. Nine plants of each variety were investigated for morphological traits. The results showed that the morphology varies between varieties. Leaves of CBD Charlotte's Angel hemp variety has 7 lobes (highest lobes, whereas other varieties had 5 lobes. For stem color of Skunk variety was purple, Blue Dream was light green, and the others were purple-green. Strawberry Cough had the highest mean values of the length of the central leaflet at 10 cm. Skunk had the highest mean values for the width of the central leaflet at 2.71 cm. The varieties with compact inflorescence were Black Jack, CBD Charlotte’s Angel, Strawberry Cough, and Sugar Bomb, while the varieties with fluffy were Blue Dream, Blueberry, and Skunk. The differences in morphology of hemp and cannabis varieties will be used this information for classification and breeding program.
