Abstract

The objective of the research was to analyze a correlation between canopy width together with height and leaf retention in cassava populations from a cross of C33 x HNT by sowing seeds of cassava from a cross of C33 x HNT in July 2021, then the number of remained leaves were collected in February 2022. Afterwards, single-row cassava plants were grown by cassava stakes in May 2022, then the height and the canopy width of cassava were collected in August–November 2022. The correlation between canopy width, height and leaf retention of cassava. The results showed that there were 76 clones taller than both parents. There were 98 clones with larger in the narrow canopy width than both parents. There were 49 clones with larger in the wide canopy width than both parents. The correlation between leaf retention in dry season and both narrow and wide side of canopy width in rainy season of 3-month-old cassava plant were highly significant with the correlation coefficients 0.3758 and 0.3659, respectively. The correlation between leaf retention in dry season and plant height in rainy season was significant with the correlation coefficients 0.2377. Therefore, the canopy width of cassava in the plant can be used to select plants that tend to maintain high leaf retention in the dry season.
