Effect of Leaf Cutting on the Yield of Rice Varieties RD79 and RD85
Abstract
Rice leaf cutting was method that farmers used to solve the problem of weeds growing in the rice fields. But, cutting of rice leaf might be affect rice production. Therefore, the objective of this experiment was to compare the yield of rice with one time of leaf cutting, two times of leaf cutting and without leaf cutting in rice varieties RD79 and RD85. Factorial in Randomized complete Block Design with 2 replications were used. The first time, leaf cutting was done at 30 days old. The second time, leaf cutting was done at 60 days old. The results showed that leaf cutting was not significant effect to rice yield and including the yield components. While, both rice varieties, number of spikelets per panicle and number of filled grains per panicle were significant. This data showed that leaf cutting was not affect the yield. Since rice leaf cutting of both times were vegetative phase and not yet to reproductive phase. Therefore, farmers will be using leaf cutting methods to control weeds. But it was not affect the increase in productivity.
