Abstract

Rice breeding using genetic resources from wild rice is one way to obtain new traits of rice. Since wild rice (Oryza rufipogon Griff.) has a red pericarp. The pericarp color is rich in various antioxidants. But plant type of this rice is not conducive to cultivation. It has a horizontal spreading type. Therefore, it is necessary to cross with the cultivated variety O. sativa L. This experiment was objective to evaluate plant type of F₅ lines obtained from crossing between cultivated rice and wild rice O. rufipogon Griff. The F₅ with 172 plants were transplanted in experimental field. Spacing 40 x 20 was used. Rice plant types were evaluated at tillering stage. The results show that they have segregation from erect plant type to horizontal spreading type. Plant type of F₅ lines was still segregation. Therefore, 26 lines were selected for erect plant type, which is a good agronomic trait. There will be selection of another trait.
