Evaluation of Mung Bean (Vigna radiata cv. Kampaengsaen 2) Seed Maturity Using Transmission of UV Radiation and Different Color Filters
Abstract
Mungbean is economic crop of Thailand. Increase in number of processed industries, exports, result in the demand of mungbean seeds. However, the major problem of this species is asynchronous in seed maturity because of its unique characteristic. Therefore, the objective of this experiment was to develop correct and precise a maturity assessment method for searching the physiological maturity of mungbean cv. Kamphaeng Saen 2 Seeds using the chlorophyll fluorescence analysis of seed coat. In the experiment, similar varieties of mungbean grown in different areas, namely Lop Buri and Suphan Buri provinces were analysed. Three phases of seeds developments were collected (fresh seed, physiological mature seed, and harvested mature seed). The invented UV light generator and different color filters were used to investigate the seeds. The germination percentage was test and seed vigor were also collected by accelerating seed age. The results indicated that mungbean seeds at 3 phases were different in percentage germination and seed vigor (P <0.05). However, there was no relationship to chlorophyll fluorescence of seed coat under the invented device.
