Abstract

The consumption of mung bean has been constantly growing. Mung bean's products was, therefore, a great economic profit for Thailand. However, the major problem of this species is asynchronous in seed maturity because of its unique characteristic. Therefore, this study aimed to develop correct and precise a maturity assessment method of mung bean seeds for searching the one-time seed harvest. Mung bean cv. Kampaengsaen 2 with 3 different developmental states were cultivated in 2 locations which were Lopburi and Suphanburi province. The germination, seed vigour and Chlorophyll fluorescence of the seeds were analysed in each sample. The results showed that Chlorophyll fluorescence inversely proportional to the seed vigour (germination after AA test). Mature mung bean seed emitted lower chlorophyll fluorescence level than fresh mung bean seeds. The mature mung bean seeds harvested in Suphanburi province was lower Chlorophyll fluorescence than from Lopburi province. Chlorophyll fluorescence from each growing stages was statistically significantly different from each other. Analysis of Chlorophyll fluorescence, therefore, allow the assessment of maturity of mung beans seed for appropriate seed harvesting in seed production.
