Evaluation of Plant Height and Branching Induction Using Red Light and Cytokinin Hormone
Abstract
Cassava is the economic crop of Thailand with the second largest production volume in the world and important in various industries. Cassava has male and female flowers within the same inflorescence. Inflorescences form on prongs of branches of shoots, making a straight-trunk species, not branch and not form an inflorescence. The use of red light and cytokinin in Colombia is reported to be able to induce flowering of cassava. Therefore, this research is to evaluate the method of height induction and branching in cassava by using red light. The cytokinin hormone experiment has been conducted at the Institute of Tapioca Development Nakhon Ratchasima during the year 2019-2020 with the four-time trial plans of split-plot in RCBD by measuring height of cassava every month from the age of three to five months in four groups of cassava, control, red light, red light together with hormone cytokinin BA and Cytokinin BA in 15 cassava species which are 011-97, 102, 11-130, 21 60, ADIRA4, C33, HNT, KL, KU50, R11, R13, R7, R9 and TME3. According to the experiment, by testing height and branching induction methods, It cannot be concluded that all of the four height induction methods can induce branching better. As a result, it can be concluded that both light and hormones do not affect the physical height and the height of the branching.
