The Influence of the Storage Pattern on the Infestation of Insects in the Tubtim Chumphae Rice Barn
Abstract
Loss of rice seeds during storage, both quantity and quality, is a major problem of rice production, especially high-nutritional rice that is high economic value. Aims of this experiment tried to reduce loss of rice in warehouse using tubtim chumprae variety as a model. Three different storage conditions namely; 1. storage in the system designed using computational fluid dynamics 2. conventional method 3. storage with herbs (cinnamon, kaffir lime leaves, chilli) were compared the storage quality via number of pests. Seed moisture, species and number of insect pests were randomly investigated every 2 months till 6 months of storage. The results showed that storage in the system designed using computational fluid dynamics was insect infestation lower than the conventional method. Storage with herbs method found fortified beetles, rice weevils, ants, paddy butterflies, longan spiders whilst the number of species and number of insect pests and seed moisture was not significantly different. In conclusion, The storage of tubtim chumprae rice for 6 months in the system designed using computational fluid dynamics can prevent the infestation of insects better than the conventional method and the storage with herbs. Storage in system designed using computational fluid dynamics resulted in greater grain yield than other methods.
