The Effect of Concentrations of 6-Benzylaminopurine on the Number of Cassava Leaf
Abstract
Cytokinin is a hormone that affects the growth of the bud. In cassava, 6-Benzylaminopurine (BA) is used to induce flowering. The objective of this experiment was to study the side effects of cytokinin (BA) to the number of cassava leaf when using for flowering induction. The experiments were planned with four replications in split plot in randomized completely block design (RCBD) experimental trials. The main factors to be studied were the concentration of BA at concentrations of 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 mM. The sub plot was cassava variety which were HB80 and R9. BA was sprayed on cassava at 75 and 105 days after planting, then count the number of cassava leaves every month after the first spraying. The result showed that BA concentration and variety did not affect the number of branch or leaf. However, there was interaction which made R9 at 1.5 mM BA had higher branch number than other concentration, while, HB80 did not respond to BA concentration.
