On-farm Yield Trial of Peanut Promising Lines in the Northern and Central Regions
Abstract
The selection of peanut varieties that produce high yields and suitable for planting areas is one way to increase the country's peanut production. The objectives of this research were to productivity test and evaluate satisfaction of peanut promising lines by participatory action research with farmers in the northern and central Thailand. Four elite lines and three varieties: KhonKaen 84-8, Kasetsart ARDA 1 and Tainan 9 were planted in rainy season, 2022 at Chiang Mai Province and dry season, 2022/23 at Nakhon Sawan Province farmers’s fields. Each experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with two replications. The collect data such as dry pod yield, shelling percentage, harvest index, 100 seeds weight and yield composition of each line/variety. It was found that one elite lines, namely KUP11S1-1 provided the highest dry pod yields 411 Kg rai⁻¹ in Chiang Mai Province and 396 Kg rai⁻¹ in Nakhon Sawan Province. In addition, the result of the combined analysis of variance also found that interaction between genotype and environment (GxE) all characteristics, the outstanding KUP11S1-1 and KUP11231-3, which are the highest dry pod yields and yield components. This indicates the stability of the line and similar to the highest level of farmers' satisfaction with the yield of the KUP11S1-1 peanut line. Therefore, it may be selected as a recommended variety for farmers. The KUP11S1-1 has a stability of high yield with thin pod pericarp, high shelling percentage, 2 - 3 seeds per pod, medium seed size, round and shape seeds that suitable for processing into coated nuts, 100 - 110 harvest age, and good adaptability for growing in the northern and central Thailand.
