Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the maize management system of a model farmer operating under the Hinsorn large-scale farming scheme using primary data and secondary data from relevant documents and related studies by applying strategic and systems analysis tools, including SWOT, PEST, and value chain analysis, in order to propose appropriate field management guidelines for smallholder farmers. The research methodology employed semi-structured interviews combined with content analysis. The findings revealed that the key strengths of the model farmer included extensive production experience, integrated decision-making throughout the production process, and the adoption of modern technologies such as drones, agricultural machinery, and drip irrigation systems, which reduced labor requirements, increased precision, and enhanced yield per rai, particularly during the dry season when water could be efficiently controlled. However, system limitations were identified, including high investment and technology maintenance costs, price fluctuations of outputs, and constraints arising from environmental policies. The value chain analysis indicated that the pre-planting stage and field management phase had the greatest influence on productivity. In addition, the analysis of secondary data indicated that support for agricultural technology, machinery access, and knowledge transfer from related organizations played an important role in improving field management efficiency and reducing production risks. Based on these findings, practical recommendations for smallholder farmers include data-driven production planning, improved access to technology through collective action, appropriate technology selection, cost and risk management, and the strengthening of learning networks to enhance efficiency and long-term competitiveness of feed corn production systems.
