Hybrid Maize Variety Testing for Dairy Farming in Cut and Carry System
Abstract
Yield and quality are the key factors to select of field corn hybrids for recommend for forage corn. Study of 9 hybrids with consist of S7328, DK9898C, P30B80, Pac339, WS6440, WS6441, NS3, SW4452 and KSX5402 and opened pollinated variety SUWAN 5 (SW5) as check. The objective of this study for 1) Yield comparison after harvesting during 1/2-2/3 of milk line stage at kernel of corn by harvesting whole plants and compare of each variety 2) Study the quality after harvesting after 1/2-2/3 of milk line stage at kernels and compare the stay green , ADF (Acid Detergent Fiber) and NDF (Neutral Detergent Fiber) of each variety. The experiment were conducted at 1) National Research Center of corn and sorghum, faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart university, Pakchong district, Nakornrachasrima 2) R&D Forage crop center, department of Livestock development, Pakchong district, Nakornrachasrima. This experiment from February–July 2017. From this study revealed that the variety that good for tolerance of lodging was P30B80 and SW5 has low % of ADF and % NDF. The varieties that were high ear and Stover ratio were KSX4452 and WS 6441. The high potential of fresh yield and dry matter were KSX5402, Pac339 and WS6440.
