Evaluation of Harvesting Intervals on Growth, Biomass Yield and Some Nutritional Value of Arachis glabrata cv. Florigraze
Abstract
The objective of this present study was to evaluate of cutting interval on growth, biomass yield and nutritional value of Arachis glabrata cv. Florigraze for use as roughage. The experiment was conducted at Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University at Bangkhen in October 2021 - April 2022. The experiment was arranged in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. Treatments consisted of the cutting interval at 30 (6 times), 45 (4 times), and 60 days (3 times). Plants were transplanted in the pot (two seedlings/pot) with potting soil and applied basal fertilizer (15-15-15) rate of 25 kg/rai (0.7 g/pot) and also applied after every harvesting. Weekly watering and clear cut were at 45 days after transplanting. Thereafter, the data collection measured plant height and canopy width and leaf greenness at the harvesting date. The plants were harvested at 10 cm above ground level and separated to be leaves and stems for measuring fresh and dry weight yield. Nutritional values were measured Neutral detergent fiber (NDF), Acid detergent fiber (ADF), Acid detergent Lignin (ADL), and ash, respectively. The results showed that cutting at 60 days showed the highest plant height. There were non-significantly different in canopy width, leaves greenness, fresh and dry weight yield. However, cutting at 45 days was the suitable cutting interval for use as roughage because of high leaf yield and NDF, low ADL which were the proper traits of the forage crop.
