Abstract

Health care through the consumption of brown rice was more popular, which in the pericarp was high in antioxidants. Wild rice (Oryza rufipogon Griff.) has a dark red pericarp that accumulates proanthocyanidins pigments that inhibit cell degradation and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. Therefore, the objective of this experiment was to evaluate of pericarp color of F₄ (47 lines) derived from cross between cultivated rice (O. sativa L.) and wild rice (O. rufipogon Griff.). The pericarp color was measured by Colorimeter X application on smart phone. The genetic distribution of the pericarp color has been found to rage from dark red, medium red, light red to white. The length of the grain and brown rice varies from 7.75 – 10.47 mm and 5.29 – 7.21 mm, respectively. Moreover, it was found that awn in the same panicle had distribution in three types: awn all seeds, without awn all seeds and both awn and without awn in the same panicle. This information will be used in lines selection for red pericarp.
