Abstract

Distance between plants and plant population density can affect peanut growth and yield. Thus, this research aims to study the effects of planting spacing on peanut growth and yields of promising lines compares to standard cultivars. Peanuts were planted in upland areas at Manorom District, Chai Nat Province from November 2022 to March 2023, using Strip Plot Design with 3 repetitions. Main plots are 3 planting spacing: [1] single row on the ridge (the distance between rows is 50 centimeters and between holes is 20 centimeters), [2] double rows on the ridge (the width of the ridge is 85 centimeters, the distance between rows is 25 centimeters, and between holes is 20 centimeters), [3] Five rows on the ridge (the width of the ridge is 160 centimeters, the distance between rows is 30 centimeters, and between holes is 20 centimeters). Subplots are six lines/cultivars of peanuts, which are two promising lines: KUP11231-3 and KUP11S1-1 and four cultivars: Tainan9, Khon Kaen 84-8, Kasetsart Ko Kae 40 and Kasetsart ARDA 1. The results show that the height of the peanut plants from all plant spacings were not different. Peanuts grown with [1] single-row spacing on the furrow ridge had the highest canopy width, while peanuts grown with [3] five-row planting distance on the furrow ridge provided the highest yield of 485 kg rai⁻¹. In addition, the promissing peanut lines had higher growth and yields than the check cultivars which their yield were 334 to 425 kg rai⁻¹.
