Abstract

Objectives of this study were to evaluate the peanut bud necrosis disease (PBND) resistance of peanut elite lines, and to study on correlation between disease screening under natural infection and mechanical inoculation. The experiments were carried out as follows; 1) evaluation of PBND resistance of the elite lines in two farmer’s fields under, hot spot areas of PBND at Kalasin province in dry season 2018/19, and the experiment was arranged in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with two replications with 5 peanut elite lines and 3 check varieties (Tainan 9, KhonKaen 5 and Kasetsart Kohkae 40) and 2) evaluation of PBND resistance by mechanical inoculation. The second experiment was conducted by CRD with 4 replications with 5 elite lines and 4 varieties such as Tainan 9, KhonKaen 5, KhonKaen 6 and ICGV86388. The combined analysis of variance for natural infection revealed that % PBND at 60 DAP and area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) were highly significant (P>0.01). KUP13W060 and KUP13W027 presented PBND symtoms (%) (14.2 and 17.7%) and AUDPC (139.0 and 193.5) significantly lower than Tainan 9 (38.5% and 430.6) and KhonKaen 5 (38.8% and 353.6). The results indicated that the PBND resistance these lines was better than both checked varieties. For yield and yield components, pod yield was not significant whereas shelling percentage and harvest index (HI) were highly significant comparing with checked varieties. Shelling percentage of KUP13W060 (74.0%) was not difference with check varieties. While shelling percentage of KUP13W027 (67.9 %) was lower than check varieties. For harvesting index (HI), KUP13W060 showed the highest value at 0.462. Moreover, PBND evaluation by mechanical inoculation revealed that disease severity score and AUDPC of genotypes were highly significant. The disease severity score and AUDPC of KUP13W027, KUP13W058 and KUP13W060 was lower than Tainan 9 and KhonKaen 5 but not difference from KhonKaen 6 and ICGV86388, which were PBND resistant varieties. The correlation between PBND evaluation under natural infection and mechanical inoculation was highly positive. To sum up, results of each experiment indicated that KUP13W060 was a resistant line for PBND with high yield potential.
